SFQ reveals the truth there is no right or wrong in Qigong movements only good better and best

Many Qigong masters and teachers tell their students that they have to follow their instruction exactly. If not, it could cause harm in the body. So in order to learn Qigong well, you have to go to a master to learn it directly from him. Many students in my classes have asked me about this. I always smile and tell them this is not so.

You do not need "perfect" technique to benefit from Qigong. If you are practicing Qigong to help yourself there is no right or wrong only good, better and best. You simply do the best you can at that time and you will benefit. If you want to use Qigong to help others, the purity of the love in your heart and your desire to help are more important than knowing the "right" technique. You just do the best you can at that time and know that it will help your friend.

However, if you want to advance to the higher levels of Qigong to experience things many would call "super natural" then it is very important that you work with a master and follow the master's instructions explicitly. You cannot make a single mistake and it will take years to accomplish. Few people ever advance to those higher levels. But, remember, to experience the healing power of Qigong for yourself and to help others, it is not necessary to do so.

In Level One of Spring Forest Qigong, we talk about the energy channels in the body. There are twelve main channels in the body that are reflected in many points throughout the body. For example, six of these channels have points in the hands and six in the feet. When you open your hands, you help open these six channels. When you close your fingers, you close these six channels. The same thing happens when you move your feet.

When you lift your hands over your head, you help open the lung, heart, large intestines, and many other channels. When you move your heels up and down, you help to open numerous channels, including the kidney channels where the vital life force stays. So, no matter what you do, as long as you open your hands and move your feet, you help open all these twelve channels in the body! How quickly you can get the energy to flow and the channels to open depends on how you move your hands, feet and body, the speed of the movements and the length of time you spend. This is why it's best to do your movements correctly and slowly and for as long a period of time as you can.

In Level One, one of the first movements we teach is the Moving of Yin and Yang. You put your right hand up with the fingers open and facing the upper chest, while the left hand is facing the stomach at the navel. Then, you move the hands in a circular way - the right hand moves out and down to the bottom of the torso, while the left hand moves up to the forehead. The palms of your hands should be facing the body and moving along the central line of the body. You continue moving your hands up and down in this manner.

Now here you may ask a question, what if I move my hands and they are not facing the central line of the body, is that okay? Yes. It's okay. You will still benefit from the exercise. It's just not the best. When your palms face the central line up and down along the body, you open up more channels in the same amount of time.

Here's why: In our body so many areas have responding energy points which link to various organs and other areas of the body. The following pictures show these energy points on the head, torso, hands, arms and legs. By passing energy to these points or massaging these points, you can help to open the energy blockages.

So, you see why when your hands are facing the central line you open even more responding points than moving your hands away from the central line. You get good benefit either way but one is better. And, when you open your fingers, you open all six channels in the fingers, and the responding points on the hand and on the arm also open. More benefit. Less time. Those are some of the reasons I say there is no right or wrong in your Qigong movements, just good, better and best.

I chose the name Spring Forest Qigong because of its meaning. First, think of a forest in springtime. It is so filled with new life and new growth with new beginnings and new possibilities. That is one of the reasons.

The other is that one tree does not make a forest. It takes many, many trees of many different kinds and shapes and sizes. Some very old. Some new. It takes all these to make a forest.

This is how I see Spring Forest Qigong, as one tree in the forest of helping to heal, helping to make the world a more loving place in which to live. My desire is to work with all people, with doctors and nurses and therapists and health and wellness practitioners of all kinds, with all people from all over the world, who share this same goal.

I teach four levels of Spring Forest Qigong and there is more advanced training beyond those four. However, all you need to learn to open energy blockages in your body, to balance your energy and keep it flowing freely and smoothly, you will learn in Level One. You will also learn a very simple and powerful technique for helping others and that technique I will share with you in this book.

This book is an excellent way to get started and I will teach you some valuable things to practice in this book. There are also guided meditations and other elements you should know and practice that simply can't be presented in a book. That's why I teach classes, encourage others to teach and share their knowledge with their friends and why I have created video and audio tapes to help you learn at home.

The following movements will help you get started and can be of great benefit to you.
