Li Junyi of Daming Prefecture, Hebei Province, learned boxing at the Shaolin Monastery during the Song Dynasty. With exception inner strength, he won all competitions he entered. His reputation attracted many who wanted to learn the art but Lu declined as he was already a very rich man. One day, he saw his servant, Yan Qing, practising boxing by himself and was impressed by his talent. He accepted Yan as his disciple and taught him all his skill. Later, Yan made some innovations to the exercise and named it Yanqingquan.

This is why the Sil Num Tao exercise is a very advanced exercise and assumes the practitioner has already acquired significant energy skills. This is also why the Sil Num Tao boxing form is considered an advanced form rather than a beginning form. If you have ever heard the stories of Grandmaster Yip Man taking an hour to complete the first form, you will now understand a little better why it took so long and what he was doing for that hour. You can also see that this exercise contains the deep aspects of all the preceding exercises combined into one. Post standing cultivates continuously non-moving training on site , but now Testing force will develop this non-moving ability into a moving ability. Testing force is also a method to search the Wu (object). Testing force is a very important part of Dachengquan training but also is the most difficulty and most complex to practice correctly. During the Tang dynasty there lived the master Lee Tao Tze. He created his own system of Tai Chi Ch'uan called Sin Tin Kin or the Primeval Art of Shadow Boxing. He transmitted his teachings to his disciples Yee Ching Wai, Yee Yat Seung and Yee Lin Chow. Another great master was Hoo (Hu) Kang Tze. He handed down his knowledge to his disciple, the poet and scholar Soong Jung Chi. He called his style by the name of Ho Tin Fa or the Secondary Art of Shadow Boxing. He handed down his teachings to Yun Lee Hing.

T he internal martial art of PA-KUA CHANG tends to compliment t'ai chi. It is said that t'ai chi is the mother while pa-kua is the daughter. At an advanced level, there is not much difference in the fighting side of pa-kua and t'ai chi so I try to use techniques from both arts in our Chinese Boxing Classes. To this end I have devised certain training techniques that make use of both arts.
In my experience, there have been several times when other teachers, sometimes even extended kung fu family members, have approached my teachers and suggested that they not teach me (or at least not teach me in depth) since I was a foreigner. This is reminiscent of the famous story about Bruce Lee in which he was challenged for openly teaching to Westerners as the story goes, the challenge became physical and Lee had to fight an opposing master. Robert Smith's Chinese Boxing Masters and Methods, describes several incidents where knowledge was kept from him. Once one of Smith's masters saw him in a photograph with another teacher and the master stopped teaching him altogether This illustrates another motive for secrecy interschool rivalry and jealousy. In Smith's words the teacher had seen a photograph in a Hong Kong magazine of me with Cheng Alan-Ching. Sharing me with a boxer at odds with the entire boxing community was too much for him. From the list, it's not apparent that there are punches and kicks. There are, but in taiji thinking, the energy expressed in them may be warding, pressing, advancing, etc. When Yang Lu-Chan brought the art of the Thirteen Postures to the emperor's court in the nineteenth century, it was called Taiji (the Chinese term for the yin-yang symbol) because it exemplified harmonious balance. Quan means the fist, and indicates that taiji is a boxing discipline. This is true regarding the discipline part, but most forms of taiji use the palm much more often than the fist.
My earliest exposure to this model and how it applied to internal martial arts was Chinese Boxing Masters if Methods and Hsing I Mind Form, Boxing, both by Robert Smith, when they were first published in 1974.1819 Smith researched the internal boxing arts in Taiwan from 1959 to 1962. His work was the first to bring details of these esoteric concepts to Western martial art enthusiasts. Through this work, internal stylists in the West were first exposed to strange and mysterious concepts such as changing sperm (ching) into qi and qi into emptiness (shen). So I then had surgery and got a screw fixed to heal the break. I then had surgery again later that year to remove the screw but it was unsuccessful and the screw is there to stay. I have bad flexibility and my wrist is very weak. I went back to Muay Thai but it gets very painful boxing with it. I did the first basic Qigong form with Shi-Goulin, a Shaolin monk based in New York. After about three months, it started to help my wrist and I could punch again without pain. However, I hurt it again and I keep breaking ligaments. Now, I would like to continue and advance in Qigong and I was hoping to get your advice on what you think. About three years ago, I started doing Karate at a local club. I thought it was great, but the more interested I became in Martial Arts, the more I realized that I would not get very far with this club. For nearly two years I have been looking closely at different styles with the intent of changing styles. For the past year I have trained very little because I do not find it fulfilling. My Shihan insists on teaching the physical techniques only, he does not talk about, or help to develop the mental and spiritual strength of his students, though I believe you cannot have the physical, without the mental, without the spiritual, because that's what makes a Martial Art different from self-defence and boxing.
Taijiquan is the original Dim-Mak art from whence all other Dim-Mak arts have come. Sadly, this aspect of one's Taijiquan training has been lost many times over until nowadays this once great martial self-defence art is only a glimmer of its former self with most instructors only ever teaching a very basic form. Dim-Mak was invented by Chang San-feng and the secret forms that he invented to learn this deadly art were later to become known as H'ao Ch'uan or Loose Boxing and then later still as Taijiquan. Other system eventually discovered what Taijiquan had to offer and were able to lay Dim-Mak over their own styles. This was easy as they were all Chinese Systems making use of natural and flowing movement. The so-called 'Hard Styles' wanted this knowledge but were unwilling to change their whole system so they tried placing Dim-Mak over their own system. Mantak Chia was born in Thailand to Chinese parents in 1944. When he was six years old, Buddhist monks taught him how to sit and still the mind. While still a grammar school student, he learned traditional Thai boxing. He was then taught Tai Chi Chuan by Master Lu, who soon introduced him to Aikido, Yoga and broader levels of Tai Chi. A while later, he studied with Master Cheng Yao-Lun who taught him the Shao-Lin Method of Internal Power. He learned the closely guarded secret of the organs, glands and bone marrow exercise known as Bone Marrow Nei Kung and the exercise known as Strengthening and Renewal of the Tendons. Master Cheng Yao-Lun's system combined Thai boxing and Kung Fu. Master Chia also studied at this time with Master Pan Yu, whose system combined Taoist, Buddhist and Zen teachings. Master Pan Yu also taught him about the exchange of Yin and Yang power between men and women, and how to develop the Steel Body.
